Open Positions (Image reconstruction and computational inverse problems scientist)

The Computational Imaging Science Laboratory at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is seeking a computational scientist to work on a variety of large-scale, numerical inverse problems related to photoacoustic computed tomography, ultrasound computed tomography, and theoretical imaging science. The position involves the development of mathematical methods for image reconstruction and the implementation and objective evaluation of those methods. Certain projects also involve the development of machine learning methods for improving image reconstruction and image interpretation. A strong applicant will be proficient in the following skills:

  • scientific programming in Python, C/C++/CUDA
  • numerical optimization methods
  • deep learning
  • inverse problems
  • wave physics

The ideal applicant will also have experience in image reconstruction, a strong background in linear algebra and/or discrete mathematics as well as a demonstrated record of scientific achievement. Both post-doctoral and Staff Scientist-level positions are available.
